Bringing Whimsy to the Woods: Inside My Upcoming Book Series

I’ve always wanted to create books that feel cosy, calm, and relatable. One thing I’ve noticed is that there aren’t many children’s books out there that gently validate difficult feelings while offering simple tools for self-regulation. That’s what inspired my new series, featuring Thistlewhim — a forest gnome who helps woodland creatures navigate big emotions with kindness and care.

These stories weave together nature, a touch of magic, and grounding techniques that children (and grown-ups!) can try for themselves. While the themes are rooted in real emotional challenges, each story is held in a safe, nurturing space — with a little humour and warmth sprinkled throughout.

I love using animals and imaginative creatures to tell these stories. They’re expressive, charming, and help make the stories more inclusive — anyone can see themselves in them. Right now, I’m drawing character sheets for the main cast on my iPad and starting to map out the first few stories. I’m still deciding whether they’ll rhyme or not — I’m letting the writing process guide me.

My hope is that readers will come away feeling comforted, empowered, and better equipped to handle tricky emotions — all while enjoying a magical adventure. I can’t wait to introduce you to more of the characters as the series unfolds!
